anyone moving from new york city?

I don't have a place in Philadelphia yet but I know that I'll be moving out of my current place by August 1st. I was wondering if anyone is moving to Philly from New York City (I live in Brooklyn) and if you want to share a U-haul or Budget rental truck.

My major pieces of furniture are a bed and dresser...the rest of it is the usual- clothes, music etc.

Sharing the cost of a truck would be great. First estimates are around 200 bucks for truck and hand dolly plus 50-75 for other possible costs (tax, gas, tolls...don't know what else). Split between two or three people-it could be really affordable.

Please email me if you are interested. tdulani@gmail.com

Good Mobile Phone Networks in Philly?

Hi again---

This is a question for anyone who has lived in Philly for a decent period of time and owns a cell phone. I am moving from Pittsburgh and do not have my own cell phone as of yet and was wondering about the most reliable networks in Philly. If you like your network and seem to get decent coverage, please let me know!! I'm leaning towards Nextel but honestly I don't have a clue.

Thank you :o)

Roommate search

Hey all,

My name's Jenn, and I'm still looking for roommates for this coming year at Temple. I am also going to rip Dan's format for my own roommate search because I'm lazy.

LOCATION:
Preferred locations are Center City/Art Museum or Germantown, since those two areas I am more familiar with. I'd like to live with one to three people, and want my own room. I'll go cheap as long as it's safe; either apartments or houses are fine.

ABOUT ME:
I'm 22, just graduated from college in California, and like to go out and do things. I love to play and watch sports, in particular ultimate frisbee and soccer. I have a somewhat artistic side, as I am a big fan of musicals and classical music, and like to dance. I like to go out and have fun, but for the most part I'm laid-back and quiet when at the apartment. I'm not a party animal, though I go to them on occasion, and I like my privacy. I'd prefer living with girls, but coed/guys work too. I like pets, just don't have one.

On a side note, anyone in California here? I'd like to meet up. Currently I'm in Norcal (SF area) but I'll be in Socal for part of July to visit some friends. Let me know-- my email is chou.jenn@gmail.com. Thanks!

hey neighbors!

i thought it might be nice to get an idea where everyone is living once you have found a place. this way, if there are folks living close to each other, you can give a 'hey neighbor' and be able to get to know each other better before everything starts. so, if you want, post the street and/or area (manayunk, roxborough, center city, etc.) where you will be living in philly and when you will be arriving so we can all start networking!!

i am moving to indian queen lane, near henry, in east falls at the beginning of august.

Transcripts received?

Is there any way to check if Temple has received all our transcripts?

Tablet PC's?

Hey I am planning to buy a new laptop for med school, and I was thinking about getting a tablet PC. Is anyone else planning to do this? I was looking at the Toshiba ones because they have an internal CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive, whereas the Lenovo (IBM) ones don't. My brother informed me that Toshiba is coming out with a new one in the next few weeks that is a 14.1" screen, compared to all of the current 12" screen ones. I know they are supposed to be putting up computer recommendations on the admissions website, but I was just wondering if anyone else has been researching these yet and has any input. Thanks, guys!

Philly Get-together Wednesday 6/21

I did my job and picked a date: Wednesday 6/21. The Center City folks need to pick a destination and time--I'm from Chester Cty and don't know the city.

Can't wait to meet you all!

Tuition Rates/Cheap Housing

Just a heads up...

The budget estimates for this year are up on our Admissions page on the 3rd pg of the pdf file "Student Financial Information." It shows that in-state is actually going to be around $35,000 and out-of-state is about $43,000.

So on that note, if anyone was looking for cheaper housing and doesn't have a car...
I am going to be living in a single apt practically across the street from the med school. It's on North Park Ave b/w Ontario and Allegheny, which is right behind the Pharmacy School, across the street from the SFC.

My landlord is a real jerk, but his apts are cheap and you don't have to see him unless you need the maintenance guy or something. His name is Dr Tsokas and his number is 215-223-7000, and you can say that I referred you if you want. They are rowhouses converted into apts and they are kinda old, but you make it your own, you know? Rent for a furnished one bedroom is $450 and that includes all utilities except for electricity, phone, cable, and internet. There is no doorman or anything. So if you're weary, then look in Center City and you can always take the subway to class everyday. But this is an option for people who are trying to lessen their debt, haha.

I went to Temple undergrad so if anyone has any questions about the city, feel free to ask!

best neighborhoods to live in?

I may have looked over this topic in an email or something, but what are the best neighborhoods to live in? By "best" I don't mean the one with the most amenities or the most lavish, but I mean the safest areas and the maybe the most affordable under those circumstances.

Pittsburgh?

Anyone else from Pittsburgh/Western PA?
